About Us

Heritage for Growth ..

About Us

Preserving the past.
Empowering communities.
Building the future.

Ateker Museum is a living heritage museum in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda, dedicated to preserving, interpreting and advancing the tangible and intangible heritage of the Ateker peoples.

Registered in Uganda in October 2022 and opened to the public in September 2023, the Museum was established to ensure that Ateker heritage is not only preserved, but understood, experienced and carried forward into the future.

We work at the intersection of heritage, people and development connecting cultural knowledge with education, research, tourism, youth leadership, cultural enterprise, peacebuilding, civic engagement and innovation.

For us, heritage is not a static record of the past. It is a living resource that can strengthen identity, create opportunity, foster dialogue and contribute to sustainable development.

Our Vision

To promote development using Ateker culture.

Our Mission

To collect, preserve, conserve and promote the culture of the Ateker people, and use it as a conduit for development among and beyond the Ateker people.

Our Commitment

Ateker Museum is built on the belief that communities are not simply audiences for heritage they are its custodians, knowledge holders and creators.

Why Ateker Museum Matters

Ateker Museum provides a gateway into the heritage, creativity and contemporary aspirations of the Ateker peoples while creating a platform through which Eastern Uganda can engage with regional and international audiences.
